I will skip mentioning the star cast as they all are so very popular "Bas, Naam hi kaaf hai !"
The unusual characterization zipped my mind to it . Superb characterization . A slim, athletic guy and a healthy, slightly dusky girl. A shy boy and a bold, outspoken girl . An incredible ingredient for the unconventionally classical love story . Not only does that mean breaking stereotypes, There is subtle message that Love exists beyond stereotypes, caste, Creed , religion, beyond being short , fat, skinny, beautiful, dark or ugly. It's a vague feeling where it seems impossible to live without each other and this aspect is beautifully thrown light upon by the director Naganath Manjule .
Also, take a look at the plot and story , it makes it so natural that they were meant to fall in love with each other. There are no qualms, doubts about whether or not to fall in love, those are sheer , pristine emotions of truest love for each other, which is so much rare in today's world. the friendship between Parshya, Salya and Pradeep seemed to be like our childhood buddies who had been there and done that for us. No matter what decision we took for ourselves, theirs was the portrayal of true friends.
Now, As in India, lot many stories had been witnessed and reported about HONOR KILLING. But, this one is a real SAIRAT - A SHOCKER because of its promotion in the beginning. The audiences were expecting a mushy-mushy, hot, love story of an unusual couple with a daring climax as in "Ramleela or Ishaqzaade" but, Alas!! The way the plot twisted itself, seemed just so close to our hearts. It seems like the director is saying "Lets take a REALITY CHECK !! Literally, the first half is full of lovey-dovey things and the later half gives a complete reality check. The struggle a couple has to go through , the daily life that one leads with his partner, what to eat, where to live, how to cook, where to go for urinating and maintaining hygiene. All this aspects are beautifully brought out in the movie. Sairat is the ultimate human story of true lovers, trying to put life together.
And the end, where the child walks out leaving behind the blood stained footprints, At par, beyond imagination.
Truly, a great piece of work.
